Durrës is a charming, sometimes rough but very intriguing place to be. And there are almost 750,000 of those small concrete bunkers scattered around Albania. They were abandoned following the collapse of communism in 1990. Most are now derelict, but apparently some of them are reused as pizza ovens, beehives, kiosks or beach huts. I’m afraid the ones in Durrës are a bit too deep in the water for that.

Durrës ist eine charmante, manchmal etwas derbe aber sehr faszinierende Stadt. Und übrigens gibt es von diesen kleinen Betonbunkern in Albanien fast 750.000 Stück. Nach dem Zusammenbruch des Kommunismus im Jahr 1990 wurden sie dem Verfall überlassen. Manche werden offenbar inzwischen als Pizzaöfen, Bienenstöcke, Kioske oder Strandhütten zweckentfremdet. Die in Durrës liegen dazu aber wohl etwas zu tief im Wasser.
